Spice up cabbage

Spicy cabbage recipe created by community cooks Darshan and Chitra









 1 chopped cabbage (all are suitable except red cabbage)

1 teaspoon of corn or sunflower oil

1 - 2 teaspoons of cumin seeds (jeera)

Pinch of asafoetida (hing)

Pinch of turmeric (haldi)

1 tablespoon of gram flour

1 chopped chilli



  1. Heat oil, cumin and asafoetida in a wide based pan
  2. Add chopped cabbage and stir well. Cover and leave for two minutes on a low heat
  3. Add the turmeric and stir through
  4. Cover and cook for a further 5 minutes (by which time you will be able to start smelling the spices)
  5. Sprinkle on 1 tablespoon of gram flour - this gives the cabbage added texture and flavour
  6. Stir and cook for a further five mninutes
  7. Add a  pinch of sugar and squeeze of fresh lemon before serving

    I love this recipe! its also good with petit pois. I have never made it with Gram flour so I shall definitly try that next time.
